Summary
Kwent does not run its own backend for your articles. On Apple devices your saved content is stored on your device and synced through your personal Apple iCloud account. On Android everything stays on your device unless you turn on the optional cloud sync. We do not track you, we do not display advertising, and we do not sell your data.
Data on Apple devices: your device and your iCloud
Articles, folders, tags, summaries and reading state are stored in a private SwiftData database on your device and synced through Apple's CloudKit using your personal iCloud account. We have no access to this data.
Optional cloud sync (Android)
The Android app works entirely on your device by default. If you turn on Data Sync in Settings, your articles, folders, tags, summaries, reading state and imported PDFs are stored in Kwent's private cloud space — hosted on Google Firebase (Firestore and Cloud Storage) — so they can sync across your devices and survive reinstalls. A sync account is created for this: anonymous at first, and optionally linked to your Google account, in which case we receive that account's email address. If you additionally enable API Key Sync, your AI provider keys are stored in the same private space, protected by per-account access rules.
You can turn sync off at any time. You can also delete the sync account together with all synced data directly in the app (Settings → Delete account) or via our account deletion page:

Optional AI providers
If you enable AI summaries or Q&A, Kwent sends article text to the AI provider you select:
- On-device AI — Apple Intelligence (Foundation Models) on Apple devices; Gemini Nano (ML Kit) or the optional Gemma model (see below) on Android — runs on your device, no article data leaves it.
- OpenAI, Anthropic Claude or Google Gemini — only used if you provide an API key or activate Kwent Pro. Article content is sent over TLS to the provider and is subject to their privacy policy. Kwent Pro requests are routed through our proxy server, which verifies your subscription and forwards the request without storing your article content.
You can change or remove the active provider at any time in Settings.
On-device AI model (Android)
Kwent Plus and Pro on Android can optionally download an on-device language model (Google Gemma, approximately 0.5–1.5 GB) so that summaries and question-answering run entirely on your device. The download is opt-in, the model file lives in the app's private storage, and nothing it processes leaves your device: article text, questions and answers are not sent to Google, to us, or to anyone else. You can delete the model at any time in Settings, and it is removed when you uninstall the app.
The model is provided by Google under the Gemma Terms of Use and the Gemma Prohibited Use Policy, which you accept when downloading it inside Kwent. Among other things, it must not be used to generate harmful, illegal or deceptive content, to circumvent safety mitigations, or to identify or target individuals:

Web content extraction
When you save a URL, Kwent fetches the page directly from the publisher in order to extract its content. No third-party proxy is involved by default.
Support requests
If you contact us via the support form or email, we receive your message, your email address and any information you choose to share. We use that information solely to reply to your request and delete it once it is no longer needed.
Analytics & tracking
Kwent does not contain analytics SDKs, advertising IDs, or behavioral tracking. This website uses no cookies and no third-party trackers.
Your rights (GDPR)
You have full control over your data, and you can request information, correction or deletion at any time by contacting us at the email below. On Apple devices your data lives in your own iCloud: to delete it, remove the app from your device and delete the Kwent data from iCloud in Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage. On Android, uninstalling the app removes all local data; if you enabled cloud sync, delete your sync account in the app's Settings or via our account deletion page:
